I owned an 84' Wolfsburg Westy for about three months.  A month after I
bought it the tranny went.  I had it rebuilt for $750.  Two months later and
2000 miles away it dumped again.  It would slip and chug and shift early,
late whatever.  It was a nightmare.  I know its unfair to judge the design
by my single bad experience, but I will never buy another automatic VW ever
again.
