VANAGON mailing-list help
This is current workflow documentation, not a check of your membership, queue health or inbox delivery. Reading requires no account.
Am I subscribed?
Signing in gives you a web account. Verifying your account email proves ownership of that mailbox. Neither step alone subscribes you to email delivery.
Mailing-list membership requires its own mailbox confirmation. Use the same address as your web account if you want eligible web posts and replies distributed to the list. Email-only members do not need a web account.
- Send
SUBSCRIBE VANAGON Your Full Nameto the command address. - Follow the private confirmation instructions. Opening a link does not consume it; complete the explicit confirmation action, or use the emailed OK command.
- Read the completion receipt, then send
QUERY VANAGONto check your own membership, delivery mode, ACK, MIME and REPRO options.
If a confirmation does not arrive, check junk mail and contact support. A submitted request or queued receipt is not proof of inbox arrival. Do not forward a private confirmation token to the public posting address.
Command reference
Subject: leave blank, as in the original instructions. A descriptive subject is optional and does not replace the command. Commands belong in the plain-text body, not the subject.
Put one command on the first nonblank line. Surrounding spaces are ignored. English and reviewed Spanish, French, German and Japanese aliases are accepted; command arguments and list identity remain explicit. Bus/camper emoji may decorate a command, and ❓ means HELP. Signatures and ordinary trailing content are discarded; quoted commands are never executed. A second unquoted command is rejected. Keep the entire body under 4096 characters.
Command names are case-insensitive. Each slash-separated alternative below is a separate command: send only one per message.
HELP- Get this command guide.
SUBSCRIBE VANAGON Your Full Name- Request membership, or a confirmed name update if already subscribed. Suppression is not bypassed.
SIGNOFF VANAGON- Leave email delivery for your own address. UNSUBSCRIBE VANAGON is equivalent; other members and your web account are not removed.
SET VANAGON MAIL- Resume individual delivery and turn digest off.
SET VANAGON NOMAIL- Pause email while keeping membership.
SET VANAGON DIGEST- Choose daily digest delivery. SET VANAGON DIGESTS is an alias.
SET VANAGON NODIGEST- Select individual mode; use MAIL to resume a pause. SET VANAGON NODIGESTS is an alias.
SET VANAGON ACK / SET VANAGON NOACK- Request or disable posting acknowledgements.
SET VANAGON MIME / SET VANAGON NOMIME- Select MIME or plain-text digest format.
SET VANAGON REPRO / SET VANAGON NOREPRO- Receive or suppress copies of your own posts.
QUERY VANAGON- Privately report membership and delivery options. STATUS VANAGON is also available.
INFO REFCARD- Receive this command reference by email.
THANKS- Request a server responsiveness receipt, not proof of subscription or list delivery.
PROFILE PUBLIC / PROFILE PRIVATE- Choose whether your own community profile is public. Default: private. Email, subscription preferences and account activity remain private; no enrollment or list distribution is performed.
Ownership-sensitive changes require private confirmation. Delivery preferences cannot reactivate a signed-off member; send a fresh SUBSCRIBE. A disabled or abuse-suppressed address is not re-enabled by a command.
The reference describes implemented command handling, not completed end-to-end acceptance of every option. Additional historical SEARCH/GETPOST behavior is not certified here. Original guides remain available as historical documentation.
Individual mail, digests and leaving
DIGEST delivery groups eligible email and website forum contributions by closed UTC day by default. Weekly archival is separate: Saturday 11 p.m. America/New_York. Large daily windows may require multiple bounded digest messages; no empty digest is promised.
Existing members can continue using ordinary email commands and discussions without creating a web account or subscribing again. Send QUERY VANAGON to check your current preferences, and HELP or INFO REFCARD for updated instructions. Discussions are public; do not send confidential information, passwords or private credentials.
NOMAIL pauses delivery while retaining membership. MAIL resumes individual delivery and turns digest off. NODIGEST selects individual mode but does not resume a pause.
SIGNOFF or UNSUBSCRIBE affects only your address on this list, not other subscribers or your web account. A message already submitted to an external provider cannot be recalled.
Weekly archival is a separate publication policy, not a promise that finalization is enabled or complete. See preservation status for recorded progress.
New discussions and replies
Use the posting address for a new discussion with a descriptive subject. Posting by email requires confirmed, eligible membership and applicable moderation approval. Use the command address only for commands.
Reply to a received discussion to preserve its Message-ID references. A matching subject alone does not establish threading. Keep your new contribution above quoted history; old quotes and recognized signatures are not published as a new reply.
Web-only posts do not prove list membership. Check the posting panel for your current eligibility and delivery mode. Accepted, queued, provider-submitted and actually received are different states.
Guest chat never becomes mailing-list email. Historical recovery never resends old messages. Avoid passwords, payment information and private contact details in a public contribution.
Reading discussions and weekly archives
Each contribution has a permanent link. Choose Continue the discussion to open its ongoing conversation and reply. A weekly archive is a saved edition: its text stays unchanged while later replies continue in the original conversation.
Times display in your device timezone, with the timezone abbreviation shown beside the time. Each timestamp tooltip also provides UTC. Without JavaScript, timestamps display in UTC. Server publication times are recorded in UTC; changing your device timezone does not change a post's identity, order or archive membership.
Weekly archives close Saturday 11 p.m. America/New_York, including daylight-saving changes. The publication window includes its starting instant and excludes its ending instant. A contribution at the cutoff belongs to the next week. Daily email digests are separate from these weekly editions.
