I am of the opinion that a good electric-hybrid conversion is just what the Vanagon needs. At this point the technology/cost factor may make it out of range for us mortals. Honda's Insight car is probably on of the best for a hybrid (http://www.hondacars.com/models/insight/index.html )with its 1.0 3Cyl and regenerative braking servicing some very techy batteries. Methinks the Vanagon is out of the weight limits for such a drivetrain, but I could be wrong. I think the fuel-cell (either gas, alcohol, or hydrogen) electric combination is the best future to take our beloved vans into the coming decades, but this technology needs to go mass production. I would say to the list's vendors that a rather good living could be made in the future on these conversions once they do become practical ;) Darrell Johnson '90 Vanagon Carat Mission Viejo, CA -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Dunn [mailto:AndrewD158@AOL.COM] Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2000 7:09 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Hybrid vanagon? I recently saw an ad for an "electric" vanagon in DC. Was sold already. I heard the guy spent 10 G converting it. I'm interested in building a hybrid gas/electric version. This is an interesting mod I can find the time to work on. Does anyone have any ideas on this, any websites , etc. Andrew Dunn
