Subject:Re: Vanagon grilles and lights

The thing is that there is just no easy solution to the poor low beam problem
with the Vanagon. If there were, don't you think someone out of the 800+
listmembers would have figured it out and told the rest of us? :)

Why? Because it is a design problem.
The square headlights have a poor DOT design that doesn't allow what light is
there to go where it is needed. The wiring is poor so if you simply put in a
higher wattage bulb you would probably start a fire. The headlight switch
can't handle the current of a nicer bulb without shortening it's life
drastically. So what choices do you have:

1. If you like the square look then go with a set of David Marshall's Hella
H4 lights with relays(I can't find a source for these or I would carry them
myself). Price ???

2. If you like the round look go for the Quad round grille with H4 round
lights and H3 inner lights with relays. $295 from me.

3. If you are really lazy go with the Projektwzo lower foglight grille kit
which gives you more light, no drilling, wiring, etc, looks cool and costs
$325 a set (I sell these too).

4. If you are low on money, call up JC Whipme and buy their cheesiest,
cheapest foglights, drill holes in your van (right through the fiberglass
bumper or better yet mount them directly on the roof) wire them up and get
ready for the Dukes of Hazard reunion. (Yee Haw!)

5. If you have no money, borrow a set of aircraft landing lights from your
local airport (plane of your choice), and burn out other driver's retinas
with 121 Gigawatts of pure night dispelling light (before your battery
explodes and your alternator goes up in flames) :)

Have a great, and bright Friday night :)
