I'm not sure what the service bulletin is referring to exactly, but I'd guess that it's the elimination of the head/cylinder shim and replacement of the paper gasket between the cylinder and the case. It has nothing to do with the method of delivering gas to the combustion chamber. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Young tomyoung1@home.com Lafayette, CA 94549 '81 Vanagon --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kent Christensen" <lkchris@USWEST.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Monday, February 07, 2000 4:48 PM Subject: Re: Case and pistons shot? > re: The cases/cranks used in the air-cooled Vanagons are all the same > whether carburated or FI. > > Does the following from > http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/servicemmy1.cfm conflict > with this, or is it something else? > > VWC REMANUFACTURED 2.0L AIR-COOLED ENGINE-ENGINES, P/N 071 100 031AX, > 039 100 03 > B/C/DX, HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO IMPROVE HEAT TRANSFER AND INCREASE > DURABILITY-THES E > CHANGES EFFECT ENGINE CODES GD, GE, AND CV-ALL 1975-83 VW VANAGON/TYPE > II MODE LS TLH
