Wow, that's a new one. I can honestly say I've never heard of camshaft bearings making a noise. That is probably because they outlast the rod and main bearings, and typically the rod bearings go first. Are you sure he said cam bearings? I am also assuming we are talking a gas engine, since a diesel has no cam bearings. If you need to replace the bearings (any one them - cam, rod, main), the engine must be removed and completely dismantled. In effect a complete rebuild. Still doesn't sound right, though... (4 speed) and he suggests I put new camshaft bearings in. He says they're just making a tiny bit if noise, not bad "yet". But should be done within the next 2000 mi. I know I can get hubby to do the work just wondered about how long it a job it is, and if anything else should be done while he's at it? Any special tricks i should pass on to him? Please don't tell me he's going to have to pull the whole engine!! I have this sinking feeling I'm going to be out in the barn with him. (you know, the gopher) Go fer this wrench, go fer that socket, I'm hungry, gofer some lunch, gofer another cup of coffee, etc., etc.. Katy 84 Westy NE Iowa katya@netins.net
