Fix it on the inside with some heavy fibreglass matting, and then put a tow
hitch on there.  Either from the Busdepot (which fits inside the bumper if
still available), or just get the standard vanagon hitch that bolts onto the
towing eyes.

both of these will help protect your van if this happens again.
