I'm switching the bellhousing on my ACW transmission for an '82 diesel bellhousing as part of my ongoing preparations for the eventual installation of a gas inline four engine into my '90 Vanagon. I'd like to remove the release shaft, and have removed the two circlips, but, so far, I can't manage to solve the puzzle of how to remove it. How do I remove the r.s., so I can clean and relube the bushings and shaft? I also noticed the Bentley recommends 'G 000 100' grease for the mainshaft and clutch splines. Is this a lithium based multi-purpose grease? The recommended grease for the release shaft, again from the Bentley, is molydisulphide for all r.s. but the Syncro r.s. which gets a recommend of multi-purpose grease. Another Bentley error? If not, why the distinction of a different type grease for the Syncro r.s.? If it is an error, which grease is the one to use? Thank you. -Dana-
