As a type3 owner and lover, and active on the type3 list too, I can tell
you that the notchback debuted in August 1961, the squareback (Named
Variant by the factory) 6 months later in January 1962. The Fastback
debuted in August 1965 as a 1966 model.

1968 was the first year for them IN THE US!!! For some strange reason,
VWoA never imported them before that.
