"if you enter the wrong code 3 times it will lock you out for 1 hour,
then let you try another 3 times."

    What's this all about ?  Never heard this part of the story before.  All
the information I have has told me that after the third time the system is
toast and the radio must be returned to VW gurus for reprogramming.  Last
time I had to do that cost me $130. CND !!  And, I'm sure I waited more that
one hour before trying the code again before sending the dam thing off to the
dealer.  In fact, I got info from the list over a period of a few weeks and
tried every scenario possible and NOTHING worked.  The conclusion was that it
must be returned to the dealer !
