Oh what a little time and reading can do!  I just went into
Karl F. Bloss' webpages and read that Fram oil filters cause
higher pressure drops from more restrictive flow.  Thanks,

Yep, I put in heavier oil and a more restrictive filter.  No
wonder my idiot light won't go off.  Fortunately, I've kept
the old filter.

Now I am wondering about getting filters locally.  Is there
a preferred brand or decent alternatives that can be found
locally at a Checker or NAPA, or should the VW "Autobahn" or
Mahle filters need to be ordered or obtained from the VW
dealer?  The Bus Depot?
