Try jiggling the shifter while in PARK while trying to start the van. If it starts when you jiggle the shifter, it probably just means the parking pawl in the transmission is worn out. This is one of many good reasons to always use your parking brake in a car with an automatic transmission. A lot of weight comes to rest on that parking pawl when the van is left in park without the aid of the brake to hold the vehicle. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dana Darling <danachan13@HOTMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2000 2:17 PM Subject: only starts in neutral > hello! > > i am new to the list, and a new westy owner. this list is fantastic! > > i have a 1991 westy (with an auto tranny) that only starts in neutral-she > also idles a little high. being new to westy ownership, i don't really know > where to start. any ideas? > > thanks, > dana > > > '82 diesel westy > '91 westy > ______________________________________________________ > Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
