Frank, you are right!  I guess this couldn't be your problem.  Only the
manual tranny gas Vanagons have this bushing.  Sorry for the confusion.  I
have worked on diesel Vanagons before but it has been a while (as you can
tell).  I guess maybe you should have someone pray over the van and anoint it
with oil (couldn't hurt:).
