My 85' Westy has them. They are located under the TB as described in a later post. Mine did not work because the contacts were melted by an incorrect wiring harness splice job done by a local shop in Oregon. I did not notice this until Ken at the Volks Cafe in Santa Cruz CA pointed this out when he was diagnosing an unrelated problem. When I had them replaced I did not notice any change in performance or engine sounds. But I feel better the switches were fixed -- who know what symptoms down the road they might cause if they weren't working. We popped engine hatches to check stuff out here and there, of course. Anyway, this 1.9 didn't have throttle switches. Now, I'm used to the buried system under the throttle on the 2.1, but I'm pretty sure (and we confirmed in Bentley) that the 1.9 has two switches (one for idle and one for WOT), but this van had neither. It seemed to purr just fine at idle and generally had a good sound for a WBX with over 150K. Anyone know if the 1.9 ever came without throttle switches? -Karl Karl and Kristina Bloss, Trexlertown, PA '87 Westfalia Weekender "Beverley" - 195K miles http://www.enter.net/~bloss/vw/ PA/NJ Vanagon owner's mailing list: http://www.enter.net/~bloss/vw/pavanagon/
