Subject:"reserve" fuel capacity

My 86 Vanagon ran out of gas PROMPTLY as the needle hit the whitelline below
the orange zone.  At least in my van, the orange zone IS the reserve.  I was
used to vehicles that would seemingly run forever after the needle passed
"E".   I have often put 15 or 15.5 gallons in the vanagon.
