David, Thanks for the information about gasoline sinking (being heavier than air), but it would still be in and enclosed area up behind the spare tire and would likely build up a certain amount of vapors... and as you know it is the gasoline vapors rather than the liquid itself that is explosive. Whether it would build up a high enough concentration to be explosive I don't know... and I don't want to be the first to find out :) Bill -----Original Message----- From: David Beierl <dbeierl@ibm.net> To: Davidson <wdavidson@THEGRID.NET> Cc: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Date: Wednesday, April 19, 2000 10:10 PM Subject: Re: Gas Can Carrier >Gasoline (and ether) vapours sink...LP sinks, butane not sure, natural gas >rises. > >david > >At 21:16 4/19/2000, Davidson wrote: >>this doesn't have to be a leak; just gasoline vapor rising and being trapped >>under the van... and there is a spark from one of the nearby wires... or the >>fan shorts out and burns up... the results could be catastrophic... > >David Beierl - Providence, RI > http://pws.prserv.net/synergy/Vanagon/ >'84 Westy "Dutiful Passage" >'85 GL "Poor Relation" > >
