You can disconnect those old speakers, use them as hole covers and
install any 6" X 9" speaker, including nice 3 ways, in the lower part of
the door for a real improvement.  You have to cut a little metal, but
Crutchfield gives you the measurements for correct placement.

Absolutely worth the trouble for a car as noisy as our Vanagons.
