The major reason probably is that the L-Jetronic aka Digijet injection
system is a pulsed rather than continuous-flow system, and as such is not
very amenable to fiddling with.  See discussion in _Bosch Fuel Injection &
Engine Management_, Charles Probst; Robert Bentley, Publisher,
1991.  Available from Bus Depot and direct from Bentley, among others.
