I do it because I can, its my Constitutional right, and it irritates the
heck out the communistic socialist liberals who think I shouldn't be doing
it.

That, plus I have no intention of being assaulted or robbed on a trip, and
then sitting
around waiting for the 'authorities' to show up an hour after the fact, to
help me fill out a report or bandage my wounds. In my case, the
'authorities' can just come and drag the carcass away instead.
