Let me add my 2 cents to the tire debate.....
1. My van came with a 'no-name' set of tires (Big'O'). Handled poorly
(steering wandered, thought rack was bad)
2. Looking at my spare, which appeared original, it looks like my van
('90 Carat with alloys) was delivered with Michelin MXTs. That tire
shows Made in Spain. When I got a flat recently, just the one tire made
an improvement in steering. Would have used that tire except for side
wall cracking, which I didn't appreciate for visual. However, I
couldn't expect too much for a tire that lives under the car.
3. Ordered and received a new set of MXTs 205/70R14s. The are marked
Made in United Kingdom, have more 'mod' lettering, otherwise look like
the old one.
4. Car drives totally different. Steering is lighter and more precise.
Conclusion, having the correct tires (original spec) is definitely
worth it. It will be interesting to see the long term wear on these.Have something to add on this topic today? Revive this thread in the forum »
