I'm getting 2 Optima deep-cycle batteries installed in my current
van.  According to my installer, the under-driver battery can be fit
with the posts pointing forward and at the upper edge of the battery,
I.e.,:

Direction of travel -->

      +---------+
      |         |==
      |         |
      |         |
      +---------+

According to my installer, an Optima deep-cycle battery can also fit
into the under-passenger compartment, when the posts face backwards,
as in:

    ==|         |
      |         |
      |         |
      +---------+

I haven't gotten my van back from this round of 'upgrades', but I'll
be sure to post pictures to vanagon.com as soon as possible.
