Went to the VW drags races in Sacramento. Met BenT, looked for Debby and her kids and for the guy from South Sacramento whose name escapes me [as does so much these days]. Instead we saw some double cabs, one for Ben, one for me, and met a guy who had just bought a 88 Syncro. He was resigned to problems but what the heck, he had his air cooled van for reliable transportation. Then we met some Canadians who had come down to buy a van. After carefully explaining to this pair, friends of David Marshal, that one must emulate the Canadian goose and go north in the summer, not to Sacramento we found out they indeed had bought a van and were going back North. A good move. BenT had the excuse of going to the VW swap meet for being there. I wanted to see what the god-emperor of San Francisco real estate looked like [I was impressed, almost bowed down] so I had an excuse. The Canadians bought a van. But what the heck were all those other people there for? Hot, dusty, and all that was there were a bunch of VWs. Makes one wonder. Mike
