I have recently put in a new engine, one of Boston Bob's, and I seem to be getting less gas mileage than I did before the conversion. It seems I'm getting about 16 miles per gallon, whereas before it was closer to 20. Not a big difference, but it also seems that my gas gauge is not working the same as before either. The gauge use to sit in the middle of the fuel tank display a lot longer than it does now. I did have the tank dropped so that the radiator hoses could be put in, so I'm wondering what the difference might be. I plan on going out west from Minnesota this summer, and up through the mountains does anyone think there is reason to be concerned about only getting about 250 miles per fill? How about when in the mountains, how much more gas do you suppose I will use when going uphill? Also, any recommendation on where I want to keep the r.p.m.'s when going up. Am I looking at second gear for the most part, or will I get to pop it into third ever? I am sooo looking forward to this trip, and will post more questions as to where might be some hot spots to stay along the way. Thanks to all, Dale '84 Westy '00 Golf
