Chris, I did mine last year. R134a seems to cool about as poorly as R12 did in my system. I am licensed to by R12, but I chose to convert for economic reasons. I needed 2 cans of R12 / Phoenix summer since the Vanagon was new in 1984. It looks like now I need 2 cans of R134a / summer. I just drove 20 miles and it's about 107 out. The AC was a lot better than leaving the windows open, but not nearly as nice as the real AC that I have in my other cars. I have an '85 Westy. Just replaced the compressor and I am ready to be cool! Every shop I talk to wants to convert me to R134. What is your experience with that stuff? Does cool well? I live in a high-humidity and high temp area, 90% humidity and 95 degree highs, do I need something to really work. Thanks, Chris 85.3 Westy
