That's exactly what I'm looking for in regards to doing this...a facelift to
my Vanagon. I'm also going to replace my antenna with the chrome version of
the antenna.

This subject has been hashed out a couple of times, and I have stated
that Older Chevy Pickups, Mack trucks, and Vanagons, among others, use
the moulding for lockers on the glass rubber channel.
Now let me say this again; some guys are lucky, when they take out the
old, weather beaten, chrome, and replace it with nothing, and their
glass dosn't leak, and some folk's are not.
I replaced mine with new, it gave my Van a face lift, and my glass
doesn't leak.
What more can I say?
