more data points.... Van: '82 westfalia, 180k miles total engine: '92 1800 8V, Digifant, 90k miles in van, 110k miles total. (engine swap in '94) trans: stock diesel tyres: 14", first half of study period Yoko 370, 195/75, latter half Michelin Agilis 61 185. Location: mostly Victoria B.C., mild climate. Type of driving: mostly daily commute, 20 miles, 60% hwy Avg speed: on hwy 55-60 mph, in town 30 mph Fuel: Chevron 89 oct. Study period: 02/04/99 to 20/04/00 # of data points: 48 (practically all fill-ups, stopped at "first click") total miles: 14,494 Max mpg (imp) 31.9 Max mpg (US) 26.57 Min mpg (imp) 24.98 Min mpg (US) 20.80 AVG mpg (imp) 28.37 AVG mpg (US) 23.63 The milage has stayed pretty consistent since the engine conversion back in '94. Lower milage in the winter (no engine air preheat, prob runs rich for longer for that reason). I have been very happy with this conversion, wasn't a big job, hasn't been troublesome at all, not at all worried about repair difficulties! Parts for the engine seem to be readily available :) Planning on keeping this van for a lot longer, using it as a daily driver as well as for trips. If I was worried about resale value, i guess i would have kept the stock diesel engine, covered it with cosmoline, and parked it in the barn! Alistair
