Just finished the Folsom to Florence Oregon yearly camping trip. Last year Bob Kelly in Placerville put a 92 cab engine in my diesel Westy. With only a week to ring out all the bugs, there were none by the way, it worked perfectly. It worked perfectly again this year. I checked the oil once and not even a smidgen down. I love this motor compared to the diesel, but I must confess it is still a bit underpowered. If I ever see a 1.8 5 valve turbo........................ I cruised 70 mph most of the time at 4300 rpm with the original diesel tranny. I averaged 17.44 mpg, same as last year even with the new manifolds and muffler. I have the Yokohama Y356 load range D. They are ok on the highway but in cross winds are dangersous. I was driving along the coast with gusty windy condiitons, and my Westy literally was pushed +/- 5 feet. Thank God not into another oncoming car. I need to get better tires, what??????? See my Westy page with all the stuff I have done. http://www.jps.net/shilohz/vanagon.html
