Subject:Re: Thanks again! Fuel pump repair (longish)

No, I added the metal filter. I made a bracket similar to the VW style and
mounted it right after the pump. I actually ordered it before I crawled
under the '85 and lo and behold, no metal filter! It does show up as an
'85 item and I ordered it as such from Bus Depot. I used a generic plastic
filter on the inlet side. BTW, if you add this metal filter, remember to
use the high pressure (FI) gas line! I figured it couldn't hurt having
this second filter. It is large and should last forever. VW wouldn't have
added it if they didn't see a real need. As far as fuel pump noise, I
replaced the one on my '86 and it was noisy (brand new from The Parts
Place--sorry Melissa, didn't know any better.) The one in my '85 that the
PO just replaced (I have the receipt from the local VW dealer) is noisy and
this is a second one! The dealer replaced the first one because it was
too loud.
