well... have had a series of different tires in my 76, 86, and 88 vanagons... mostly michelins, but don't remember the exact models... just got my 89 syncro westy last month... it came with Michelin MX 14"... have only been off-roading twice since I got her and they actually seemed to work better than I had expected. But bear in mind that I'm almost never in slippery situations here. Rocky, uneven terrain, yes, but water is rarely a problem... round beach rocks and sand are the more common difficulty. The MX obviously wouldn't be my tire of choice however. When these wear out, I will probably go with the Michelin LTX's... I like a tire that is moderately aggressive but not too loud on the highway. Weren't the 76 loafs sweet? That might be the best bus I ever had... although I'm falling hard for the syncro. Boy you really got em going with your tire/loaf/vanagon topic. My 76 was alot better off road than my vanagons (present company excepted)... how long can this discussion go on anyway?
