Hello Volks

The hose coming off the bottom of the charcoal canister connects to the air
filter housing on my 84 GL. This hose is also supposed to go to the air
filter housing on the newer Vanagons according to my Bentley. On my '87 and
'90 I find it comes off the filter and appears to terminate inside one of
the frame members just below the canister.

What goes on here? Anyone know? Where do the fumes go?
