The only way that I know of replacing the tem I sensor is by replacing the
AFM.  Even if you desoldered it and removed it, where are you going to get a
new one?  They aren't sold separately as far as I know.  I have brand new
2.1l AFMs for the Vanagon (Bosch, dealer overstock) for $120.  Let me know if
you need one.
