I used to live in country where quite a lot of people put one-way mirror tint
on all their windows in the early 70's. Apparently, police in some Third
World countries came up with a solution to ensure their own safety during
traffic stops and such. They didn't prohibit tints. They just justify
accidental shootings to mistaking innocent persons as known rebels an/or
criminals behind the tint.

Once this trend started, almost everybody took their tints off immediately,
except the police of course. True story, this is.
