As I said, on my Westy (which had the same sag), my "low-hanging" mudflaps
touched the ground MORE often on dips in the road with my original (albeit
worn) springs, than with these new springs. With these springs, the van
sits lower but dips less, so on bumpy roads it effectively maintains _more_
ground clearance than before. Regarding other spring options, I am not
aware of any source for "stock" springs other than VW (or having a set
custom made).
Someone else asked me if these springs make the van sit at about the same
height as the later model Wolfsburg Editions, which do use a slightly lower
spring than other Vanagon models. Not having one here to compare to, I can
only speak from memory, but I'd say that they are very close.
