If the head is in good shape otherwise you can use a helicoil insert.  Looks
like a spring with an edge.  I've seen them at Pep Boys and AutoZone
recently.  Any good VW shop should be well versed in using them if you don't
feel comfortable with doing it yourself.  Used to be pretty normal to have
them all over the old Type 1's.
