Alan,
No need to remove the hub to do the brakes. It does make it some easier,
if you don't count the removal of the hubs! If you decide to take 'em
off anyway, most VW shops have a "wrench" that you use a hammer on. Be
sure to mark the nut/shaft so you can return the nut to the correct
position (torque).
