This happened to me on my '85, actually the mounting bracket broke, so I wasn't in quite as bad shape. They are studs. I was never able to get one of the bolts back on so my alternator bracket has been attached with one bolt and two studs. The only way I can tighten a second bolt is to remove a cooling pipe as far as I can tell. I check it periodically and it still holds with one bolt after two years. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jhlauterbach" <jhlauterbach@MSN.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2000 9:21 PM Subject: Alternator mount ?? > On an '84 with 1.9L engine, is the alternator mounting bracket held to the > engine with studs or bolts?
