Oh.... one other reason not to raise the top with significant weight on
top...

I don't know how much weight the mechanism that holds the top up once raised
was not engineered for.....

But can you imagine the consequences if it were to fail during the
night....???

From the point of view of a sandwich the convenience of not having to remove
the kayak doesn't seem so convenient :)
