I too would like to remove the a/c from my Vanagon. I have an '87 Wolfy. The system was charged, but no belt was installed (I discharged it). The venting that runs the length of the roof is missing, and the rear section is a bit cracked (PO didn't take it in for recall). My wife and I are planning on converting the to a camper, so there's really no point in hooking up the a/c again. The only manual I have right now is a Haynes, which gives no information on how to attack this project. Tell ya what. If any of you are in the area (Redmond, WA), are knowledgeable about such things (no crowbars!), and would like to help me pull it, you can have it all. And hey, if ya happen to have an old Bentley you'd like to donate, that's even better. I have one with A/C and even though I live in AZ I do not want the engine to work any harder than it has to. The wiring seams to be my biggest problem. None of the books has any thing on it. I found a wire from the battery to a 20a fuse that went to the front grill where there was a relay. So If any one can help and may want the system after it is out let me know. Write back soon
