Subject:82 cold starts fine; stalls after 5 min.; Temp II??
From:Kw
Date:Wed, 1 Nov 2000 00:10:56 -0700

I have been querying the archives and reading posts until I am cross
eyed this eve. My 82 (AirCooled) starts fine when cold. I let it warm
a few minutes and suddenly it dies. No restart as if it is flooded
until it cools to ambient temps.

My immediate suspicion is the temp II sensor, since it is starting fine
when cold, but then dies when almost warm. Happened twice now. No
restart until cold again, and then it starts fine, but dies when almost
warm. (~5 min.)

By chance today I pass and stopped in at the local "Dealer" to see if
they might have one in stock for a nominal price. (joke on my part)
Normally good guys, I got the wrong parts guy today, not the old bug guy
who knows me by name but the old manager dude who could care less about
people he has seen a hundred times. "You mean the screw on thing with
the wire" Not only do "We don't stock that anymore." but "That would
be $40USD and 10 days since we just put an order in this AM." All For a
$5 - 10 part, I walked out mumbling something I'll not repeat here.

I surfed the various list vendors this eve to no avail. I could not
find this sensor anywhere, (gowesty, busdepot, vanagain). I processed
multiple archive requests trying to isolate the culprit but haven't
found an exact answer to pin point the cause. Anyone here or on the Type
II list Been There Done That?. I suspect the temp II sensor, or maybe
the cold start injector??

This can't be a $40 part. Dave Beierl, electrical guy, please tell me
what makes these sensors gold?

AirCooled, 2.0, stalls after 5 minutes warm up, won't start until cold
again.

TIA,
Ken Wyatt
