I am replacing the oil pump on my 87 GL with a new high volume
unit from Bus Depot. To my surprise a new cover plate did not come with the
pump. To my greater surprise I was able to order a new plate and gear from my
local VW dealer for only $9.00. Of course the gear will be useless in the new
higher volume pump.

My questions are:

Is it difficult to remove and replace the oil pump with the engine
installed?

Will the standard cover plate fit correctly over the larger pump?
