My '80 Westy has an all-metal engine bay hatch -- and I have seen nothing
but plastic hatches on wasserVans. I'm sure the metal hatches fit all
years, but would not use a plastic lid on an aircooled (pre '83 1/2) Vanagon.
(The later lids are lighter, though -- and just fine since the engine bay
temperatures are lower with the WBX).
