Howdy List;
It seems like more than half the list has Westies, so this won't apply to
them, but I'm looking at the metal roof of my Vanagon. Thee are 4 "bumps"
pressed into the steel to make the ceiling rigid. The first is right after
the driver's door, and lines up with the support structure there, the second
is midway through the siding door area, the third is right after the sliding
door, and the fourth is about midway through the rearmost side windows area.
Now, all are the same, EXCEPT the 2nd one, which is centered through the
sliding door area. That bump is really 3 -- for some reason it doesn't go
straight across but instead, it breaks up with 2 small bumps on the right
and left sides and a larger bump in the middle.
Is there a reason for this? Is this where you cut the roof to make a Westie
while still retaining rigidity for the sliding door? I'm not planning on
doing anything, I'm just curious about it. Is there an official technical
reason, or is it aesthetic?
