Exceuse my ignorance but what is the AFM and what does it do???

  Air Flow Meter. It meters/measures the amount of air being sucked into the ignition chambers.... sends the measurement to the ECU...
  Electronic Control Unit/computer that keeps the mix of fuel and air and spark timing just right for optimum performance.
