I feel that the key to this gentlemans dilema is a timing/ignition
problem.He states " the joint between the converter, and the muffler was
glowing red".
I don't think over fueling would cause the pipe to glow.
Could the engine have jumped time?
Or a real lean situation would cause hot pipes---- but his plugs were
fouled--
Strange--Hmmmm.
