Dear List Friends,

I have an old college friend who lives in Estes Park Colorado who has an
87 Westy with a trashed engine. She bought the thing in late November
drove it a few days and the engine went, she said it "ran out of oil".
The used car dealer she bought it from said it would cost her $3,000 to
have the engine rebuilt and he knew a garage that would do it.

Based on her overall description of how this is being handled I'm
concerned. This lady is a single parent with cancer and has her hands
full right now. The Westy is simply her dream / escape machine and I
want to make sure she gets it fixed right and for a fair price. She is
going to get me the name of the garage that is going to "rebuild" the
engine but I was wondering if there are any of you out there who can
recommend some good vanagon mechanics in the Boulder area or near by.
