I'm going to make a guess here that you are really looking at a different problem than you might expect. As far as I know, there's no reason for a CV boot to "leak", unless the CV grease is being invaded by something less viscous than the grease. The source of such "invasion" can only be transmission oil sneaking past the oil seals in that flange. You probably should disconnect the affected CV joint from the flange and take a look. The oil seal for the transmission can be renewed with the trans in place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Tom Young tomyoung1@home.com Lafayette, CA 94549 '81 Vanagon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed DeBolt" <eddebolt@NETZERO.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Saturday, March 03, 2001 10:41 AM Subject: cv boot lube leakage question > Hiya Gearheads > > I had my cv boots replaced about 2 yrs ago ( also 2 joints ). now all my > boots look good. no cracking etc but the boot under the starter is losing > its lube from the outside or small side.
