Just finished motor replacement and notice something curious.  on top of missing nearly every other part, my 82 Westy was missing the timing scale.  So I replace, then notice that there appear to be no marks on the cooling fan to set the timing.  Any ideas on the easiest way to de3termine this.  There do seem to be some small indentations on the outer ring, but cant tell if they are dents/dings/gouges.  Any help appreciated.
