The stock VW tail lights bulb is 3 watts.
I can barely see them when I'm standing outside my van looking right at
them.

So wanting to be seen is irresponsible?

I think it is a very responsible act by anyone who cares to avoid
getting hit, by some blind geek, coming up on you on a dark road at 80
mph, and probably all mimmed up, on Sunoco 260.
