These are important as David already pointed out.  There is a list
vendor/member (also Canadian) who sells Sterbo stainless steel systems that
recently posted that he had stainless steel support rods for the 1.9l.  Being
stainless and essentially custom made they are probably expensive but you'd
never have to replace them.  Unfortunately I've lost his web address, but he
may be able to sell the rods separately.
