I got a fuel filter from the VW dealer.
It says "Made in Germany"

So, I guess if you really want a german filter, you can always get one from the
dealer - though at $20,
you might want to think about how much a premium you want to pay.

P.S. This is the large metal filter found on California Vanagons.
